Congratulations to Taraji P. Henson for winning herself an Emmy nod for her role as Cookie Lyons in Fox’s smash hit television series Empire! 

Everyone is buzzing because this year’s Emmy Awards marks a kind of milestone which you probably didn’t even notice existed. Aside from Taraji being nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In Drama Series for her role of Cookie Lyons in Fox’s Empire, Viola Davis also received a nod for her character Professor Annalisse Keating in ABC’s hit show How To get Away With Murder. This is the first time in Emmy history two African American females have been nominated in the same category, this one in particular, in the same year ever! Kerry Washington was nominated for her role in Scandal as Olivia Pope however in the end Claire Danes won for Carrie Matheson in showtime homeland which was also well deserved. However, but before Kerry Washington, Viola Davis’s co-star Cicley Tyson, who plays Davis’s mother, was the last African American female to get a nod in this category for her 1995 for Carrie Grace in Sweet Justice. And how spectacular that she also gets a nod for Oustanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series for her role in How To get away With Murder!

Now of course these are just nominations. Whose to say either will win, alot speculate nome will. But my moneys on Cookie *winks*  Although Viola is amazing in How to get away with murder, I just have a feeling Taraji will bring this home. Congratulations to both of these extremely talented women and let’s all just wait and see when the Emmy Awards air on September 20 to see who wins!
